Level Up with Coach M: Showing Up for Yourself

As promised a couple of weeks ago, we’re getting into the swing of things with these blogs and tackling one topic at a time.

This week, we’re talking about levelling up.

So, what does “levelling up” really mean? At its simplest, it’s about becoming a better version of yourself. It’s about working on personal development—the hard stuff. The uncomfortable stuff. The kind of work that looks different for everyone, but is the same in one crucial way: we all need to grow. That’s non-negotiable.

And for our very first “levelling up” week, I want to start with something foundational. Something I talk about with clients every single week. Something that, if you master it, will carry you through every other part of your personal growth journey: SHOW UP FOR YOURSELF...

  • Showing up for yourself means doing it—no matter how you feel.

  • To show up for yourself is to take action, even on the days you don’t feel like it.

  • Showing up for yourself means following through, despite your mood, excuses, or circumstances.

  • It’s about doing the work anyway—regardless of how you feel in the moment.

  • Showing up = choosing commitment over feelings.

Why Showing Up Matters

Here’s the reality: you already know how to show up. You show up for work, for your family, for your responsibilities. No matter how you feel, you brush your teeth, pay your bills, and do what needs to be done.

But here’s the question I want you to sit with:

👉 Do you show up for yourself with that same consistency?

Because when it comes to your health, your nutrition, your fitness, or even your life goals… many of us fall short. We’ll cancel on ourselves before we’d ever dream of cancelling on anyone else. We’ll push aside our own growth because something “more important” comes up.

But the truth is this: you can’t pour from an empty cup. If you’re not showing up for yourself, you’ll eventually struggle to show up fully for others, too.

Showing Up in Nutrition

One of the clearest ways this shows up (pun intended) is through food.

Food is fuel—but it’s also a reflection of how much we value ourselves.

Showing up for yourself nutritionally doesn’t mean being perfect or never eating a slice of cake. It means making decisions today that support the future version of you:

  • Prepping meals instead of leaving it to chance.

  • Choosing whole, nutrient-dense foods more often than not.

  • Drinking water throughout the day instead of relying on coffee and energy drinks.

  • Asking, “Will this meal give me energy and help me feel good?” rather than “What’s the fastest thing I can grab?”

Every meal is a choice. And every choice is a step toward—or away from—the version of yourself you want to be.

Showing Up in Healthy Habits

Nutrition is only one piece of the puzzle. Showing up also means investing in habits that strengthen your body, mind, and spirit.

  • Movement: You don’t have to run marathons. A 20-minute walk is still showing up. Movement counts, no matter the size.

  • Sleep: Protecting your rest isn’t lazy—it’s essential. Showing up sometimes means going to bed instead of watching “just one more” episode.

  • Boundaries: Saying no to what drains you is saying yes to what fuels you. Protecting your time and energy is one of the highest forms of self-respect.

  • Mindset work: Journaling, meditating, or even pausing to breathe—these are all ways of showing up for your mental health.

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s consistency. It’s choosing to follow through even when you’re tired, unmotivated, or tempted to quit.

The Hard Truth: Growth Isn’t Glamorous

Personal development often gets dressed up as vision boards, inspiring quotes, or motivational speeches. And while those things can help, the real growth happens in the small, unglamorous moments when you choose discipline over comfort.

  • Saying no to fast food when you’ve had a long day.

  • Going for that workout even when the couch is calling.

  • Packing your lunch instead of relying on takeaway.

  • Getting up early to work on your goals when no one else is watching.

That’s the unsexy side of levelling up. And it’s also the most powerful. Because showing up again and again builds resilience, grit, and confidence.

How to Start Showing Up for Yourself

You don’t have to overhaul your life overnight. In fact, please don’t. That’s a recipe for burnout. Instead, start small:

  1. Pick one area. Maybe it’s nutrition, maybe it’s sleep, maybe it’s daily movement.

  2. Make one commitment. Something simple but meaningful, like drinking 2L of water a day or adding one vegetable to every meal.

  3. Keep the promise. Treat it like a non-negotiable appointment. The same way you wouldn’t skip work, don’t skip this.

  4. Stack slowly. Once it becomes a habit, add another. That’s how momentum is built.

Your Challenge This Week

So here’s my challenge for you: choose one way you will show up for yourself this week.

Write it down. Commit to it. And then follow through—no matter what life throws your way.

Because the truth is, levelling up doesn’t happen in one big leap. It happens in the daily, ordinary choices where you prove to yourself that you matter, that your goals matter, and that your growth matters.

When you show up for yourself, you don’t just change your habits—you change your identity. And that’s how you become the person you’re meant to be.

So, are you ready to level up?

A Real-Life Example of Showing Up

This week, as we talk about levelling up, I want to shine a light on one of my clients who embodies this message perfectly. Just over a year ago, she made a simple but powerful decision: to start showing up for herself. It wasn’t about being perfect. There were missed days, challenges, and moments of doubt—just like we all experience. But the difference was, she kept coming back. She stayed consistent. Small habits, Weekly Step Goals, Strength Training, and better choices. NO Major diets, NO insane training programs, With all the family and social events still in tact!

LEFT - just over a year ago This is not her first photo. This was about 8 weeks into the process already. RIGHT - This past week! Fast forward to today, and the transformation is incredible. Not just physically, but in her confidence, her energy, and her outlook on life. She has levelled up in ways she never imagined possible—all because she committed to the process and showed up, day after day.

And here’s the exciting part: we are far from done. This is just the beginning of her journey. With just over a year behind us, the foundation has been built, and now we get to keep building, keep growing, and keep levelling up even further.

Stories like this remind me why I love what I do. Helping people step into the best version of themselves, watching them break through limits, and celebrating their wins—it’s a privilege and an absolute joy. Have a fabulous Week! Let's level up and keep growing!
